Module programming is dealer only
GM ties replacement modules to the VIN through its SPS programming system. If your fault turns out to be a body control module, a transmission control module or an infotainment unit, the part cannot be fitted by an independent without a subscription most do not have. Ask the shop up front whether they can program GM modules; if not, plan on the dealer for that step.
